Helpful Steps had a very successful initial year. We hope to build on that success this year. Step-by-step we will spread our project to other parts of the country. Here are the steps we need to take to make it happen.
Phase 1
Exoskeleton has been purchased and is here to stay - thanks to your support.
Phase 2
A total of €5,000 has been allocated to help our users financially. This fund will be used to assist those who cannot afford to pay for walking sessions.
Phase 3
Purchase support equipment which will compliment the exoskeleton. Two pieces of equipment have been identified. One is an anti-gravity treadmill and the other is a Functional Electrical Stimulation device. Both of which will be used to strengthen people with physical disabilities.
The anti-gravity treadmill will be used by people who have some strength in their legs but their walking is severely weakened by MS, stroke or paralysis. By reducing the gravity, moving becomes easier. The gravity can then be increased as they progress. This device has been purchased. It is being used by people with SCI, stroke and MS. Thank you for your support.
The FES device is used to stimulate and fire specific muscles during exercise. It can strengthen and improve blood flow to paralysed muscles so they do not deteriorate due to lack of use. It is a very divert piece of equipment that can be used for a variety of exercises for people with physical disabilities. This device has been purchased also.
Phase 4
Once we are set up and have a good working model in Elite Gym we will then be able to look further afield to set up similar structures in other gyms around the country. We will give as much support as we can to help you help others. If you are interested in setting up a similar project in your gym, please contact [email protected]
